This ninth impromptu (2 min. 45 sec.) in the series of pieces inspired by sounds of childhood, namely early 90s video game music, is a workout for the left hand. The right hand plays a continuous ostinato high above the rest of the arrangement. Care must be taken with the ostinato so that it emphasizes the dotted quarter note pulse and not the quarter note pulse. This can be difficult because of the note grouping of two instead of three eight-notes.

The left-hand has the herculian task of juggling both the chordal accompaniment and primary melody. At all times the melody found in the middle stave must sound out above all other parts.

I'm not sure where the inspiration for this composition came from. There was no specific game or memory that brought forth the muse. Instead I conjured up the picture of an imaginative child's lazy afternoon in a world bright with color and possibilities.
