William Jones (1726-1800), clergyman, author and composer, was perpetual Curate of Nayland, Suffolk and was known as "Jones of Nayland". He was one of the most prominent churchmen of his day. "St Stephen" appeared in his "Ten Church Pieces for the Organ" (1789) and its popularity has continued to this day.
