In 1700, Arcangelo Corelli published his opus 8 "12 Sonata a Violino e Violone o Cimbalo" in Rome. In order to make it more playable for the recorder, this sonata was transposed from E minor to A minor, necessating an octave change.

This was the fist sonata I ever played. Imagine me as an 8 year old struggeling these notes and being very excited that I mastered the difficult fourth piece. My teacher, Joke Duijverman (who died about 20 years ago and is much in my mind these days) rewarded me with accompanying me on the piano for the last time. After this, I was given Pepusch and Mozart.
