Tylman Susato (1500-1564) was a Belgian composer turned publisher. I first heard this music many years ago as a suite of dances but I have arranged it now using the first theme as a rondo linking two of the other main tunes. The titles suggest that the originals may have been found in the French speaking part of Belgium but who knows? This arrangement was made for my Sturminster Newton Orchestra Workshop but it will work for any combo from a string quartet upwards. The tempo for the rondo should not be too fast, the Danse Bergeret in a gentle swaying two and the Pavanne Bataille in a stately four. I'd be very interested in your feed back on this interesting music.
