This time it appears to commemorate the feast of the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, or All Souls Day. Our shepherd king Jesus will lead us through the valley of the shadow of death unto the ultimate reward - heaven itself!
If you're arranging this for a group of singers, one of our singers, John Kelly, had a great idea: during the verses let a cantor sing measures 6-10, then have your natural harmonizers (and everyone else on melody with the cantor) come in on measure 11 and the first note of 12. Then the cantor again solos the last notes of 12, everyone comes in on 13 and the first note of 14, cantor again for the last notes of 14 then everyone back in for 15 and 16. It's very effective. Thanks John!
And on this day we pray especially for the poor souls in Purgatory. May they who have the heavenly hope, yet still remain in need of purgation of sin, soon change from the ranks of the Church suffering to the ranks of the Church triumphant!
God bless you.
