I was waiting in London City Airport for a flight to Zurich, when the idea for this piece came to me. Most of the quartet was written on the plane, but heavily reworked after I got back home.
It is written in a simple ternary form. The first section is a recitative based on 8 notes. This undergoes three permutations. The middle section is derived from the opening material. The coda is a modified version of the first section of the opening recitative.
