A suite in 5 movements (23min 40sec) hinting at aspects of wild life on a remote, mysterious island surrounded by the ever-present, sometimes caressing, sometimes stormy, ocean. Movt.1 is a lazy melody depicting creatures basking on the beach on a sunny morning. Movt. 2 opens with fast and furious rising and falling sequences depicting the diving of blue-footed boobies into the surf to capture fish. Movt. 3 is short but slow, depicting creatures resting after feeding the young in the afternoon. This leads without a pause into Movt. 4, which starts briskly. Predators are prowling the undergrowth and there is much chasing after prey as other prey look on from safe vantage points. The chases are lost in the distance as Movt. 4 comes to a gentle close late in the day, creatures finding safe resting places as night falls. Movt. 5 depicts the restless, wallowing motion of the ocean at night, with the reflection of stars in the waves and the restless crashing as they break upon one another and the beach. A brief squall heralds the dawn and creatures awake with joyous, excited cries to welcome a new day. The climax is reached as they leap into action again and enjoy the wondrous nature of their island home. Play the mp3 to re-produce as near as possible the overall orchestral sound that I have in mind. Use Creative Play Centre at highish volume set to Concert Hall and play through high quality speaker (good base).
