This piece (4min 33sec) was developed from my original sketches created in 1997 using Passport Encore software. The Encore file was converted to a midi file and then into Sibelius. A gambler has lost all, and is in despair. With the help of his true friends he begins to kick the habit and find a way to a better life. Incessant crotchet beats by the piano depict his struggle against the lure of the game (particularly the dissonant bass clef notes in bars 108 to 111 which give the sense of a force luring him back to the table). Oohs are used for the singers and so the true impact of the piece will only be achieved through a live performance. Play the mp3 in the meantime.
