The writer of the tune is thought to be American William Walker, who collected melodies from southern Appalachia and camp meetings. He is best known for compiling the shape-note tunebook "The Southern Harmony," first published in 1835. July, 2010: It took me a while to get around to finishing the paraphrase of the rest of this Psalm. For one thing, it was already too long, and I figured no one would sing 7 verses, much less 9. And there was that imprecatory section. But now it’s complete, just in case it could be useful.
