On 24 December 1906, Reginald Fessenden, a Canadian inventor, broadcast the first AM radio program. He began by playing a phonograph record of the Handel aria, "Ombra mai fu." He followed this by taking up his violin and playing a verse of "O Holy Night," then singing the final verse. "O Holy Night" therefore became the first live music performance in the world to be broadcast over the radio. [Source: Wikipedia]
