"Mystery" is a light-hearted, "spooky-sounding" piece
for a jazz ensemble. It was scored specially for
the Mighty Special Music Makers, which you can read about
at www.msmm.org/ This unique ensemble, conducted by
Paula Moore, consists of mentally impaired and non-impaired
musicians. The ensemble plays a wide repertoire of music
including classical, jazz, Broadway, folk, and light. All
band members learn to play professional percussion, tonal
instruments, and a collection of folk instruments from
around the world.
Although this piece is scored for many instruments, some are
optional: Flute, clarinet, bassoon, trombone, banjo,
violin, cello and saxophone are not all strictly necessary.
(If a guitar is available, it may substitute for banjo.)
The two synthesizer keyboards are quite necessary.
