Here is a cheerful little waltz that evokes the idyllic character of a beautiful May day in the countryside. The principal theme of this piece (measures 1-24) came to me on one such day and I developed the rest later on. My major influences here are Strauss and Chopin. I am merely a dwarf standing on the shoulders of renowned musical giants such as these.
When performing this piece, pay careful attention to staccato, tenuto and accent marks as well as pedal indications. In sections marked "cantabile" or "espress.", the tempo should be varied just slightly (poco rubato), whereas the section marked "marcato" should be trotted out with military precision. Chord names indicate the predominant harmonies.
Note that when repeating the section on page 4 (measures 66-83), only the treble notes are to be played an octave higher than written; the bass notes are to be played exactly as written both times.
If you would like a much easier to play version of this piece, check out my "May Waltz (Easy Version)" in the related scores above.
