The aim of this piece was not to sound like Sculthorpe at all, but is instead based in a similar conceptual vein as his music; that being programmatic and depicting a part of the Australian landscape. As the title suggests, the piece represents the inherent mystery of walking through the mists of a marshland.
The melodic and harmonic lines of this piece are meant to blur together as clouds of mist do. Hence the two hypnotic chords of the harp are not dampened as the harmonies change. Also, the buzzing sound produced by the rapid repeated low notes on the harp is desired, as the sonority is intended to add to the misty and unclear atmosphere.
The available recording was recorded on Sunday, the First of May, 2005 by Naomi Ham.
