In this arrangement the original cantus firmus, upon which Machaut based his classic work, is presented first in a prologue, then progressively infused again via periodique interludes.

The recorder is an ancestor of the clarinet; both instruments have a cylindrical bore (as does the modern flute). Kinship in structure produces kinship in timbre, the reason for the delicate blend of this arrangement.

Flute and tenor recorder are written and speak in the same general range; experiment with exchanging their two parts, or perhaps substituting a second tenor for the flute.
