The Latin text "Locus Iste" is a gradual, a chant or hymn in liturgical Christian worship that gets its name from the Latin gradus ("step"), as it is customarily sung on the chancel steps after a reading of scripture. LATIN TEXT: Locus iste a Deo factus est, inaestimabile sacramentum, irreprehensibilis est. LITERAL TRANSLATION: This place was made by God, an inestimably holy place. It is without blame.
The English words in this arrangement were written to celebrate the 2024 major remodeling of the First Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, Virginia, sanctuary. The greatest focus was a centering and expansion of the chancel area. Here we gather to glorify You, Lord, Our Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. We lift our voices in this sanctuary. Consecrate our worship here, Lord, Creator, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
