It is a lover’s lament for his late love, ending when the heartsick lover asks Lisa to guide him to where she is, so that he may be reunited in the grave with her.
This simple arrangement, based on the melody I learned as a child, is for two beginner guitarists, but would sound equally lovely with flute or fiddle playing the melody.
An interesting twist is that it is used as an instrumental theme throughout Paul Haggis’s film "Crash." (2004)
