You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices.’Lie Still, Sleep Becalmed’ is an evocative song scored for solo mezzo-soprano and harp or piano. The piece sets to music a poem by Dylan Thomas and was written for a friend as a birthday gift. The piece begins will a lyrical, almost hypnotic, accompaniment in the harp symbolising the ebb and flow of the water hitting against the side of a boat. The voice enters with an enchanting yet haunting melody informing the listener of the suffering experienced by the characters of the poem. The next section begins ’Under the mile off moon…’ and contains a change of accompaniment that symbolises the movement from the wave like motion of the sea to that of the sky. The setting of the final stanza of the poem is accompanied with a return to the opening wave-like harp figure.
