I wrote this piece in 1984 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The first 24 bars represents the intention as stated by Kennedy to go to the moon and the work toward that goal. Bars 25-28, the world holds its breath as the lunar module descends. Bars 29-5o are the celebration of the achievement. Bars 51-80 is a hymn to represent the words on the plaque left on the moon, "We came in peace for all mankind." Bars 81-96 is the 'talking heads fugato.' And bars 97 to the end is a celebration for the success and the safe return home of the astronauts. The piece is dedicated to the Peoria Municipal Band.
