This is the second of five pieces for piano called, collectively, "The Demon Speaks".
The tempo should always be quite flexible - to accommodate expression and execution.
A MIDI realization is appended (which makes a mockery of the tempo marking!).
This, and the rest of the set, were written with private performance in mind - purely for the personal pleasure of the performer/composer. There are, therefore, several otherwise awkward passages which suit the composer's rather large span, a few idiosyncratic fingerings and a moment or two of pain (e.g. avoiding spread chords b.101 ff).
