In 2000 the Bromley Oecumenical Singers season consisted of music for "Royal Occasions". Along with Purcell’s Funeral Sentences for Queen Mary were the motets I Was Glad by Parry and the Te Deum in Bb by Stanford. While the singers had an orchestra present it was not big enough to cover the orchestrations of these works currently available. I was therefore commissioned to orchestrate these two motets for brass, timp, organ and strings. The first performance was on 18 November 2000 at St Mary’s Church, College Road, Bromley by the Bromley Oecumenical Singers and Orchestra conducted by Richard Apsley. This orchestration was made from the vocal score available from the publishers Novello.
In this vocal score it stated that before the Vivats an additional fanfare could be added. I there wrote an original fanfare which was performed at the premiere however this fanfare is optional.
