This was written for piano 4 hands. Steven Basson, formerly principal bassoonist with the Milwaukee Symphony suggested to me it had orchestral potential. The opening theme is heard in the movie Sunshine starring Ralph Fiennes. This haunting melody recurs interspersed between development sections. I originally orchestrated it in 2001 and revised it in 2006 with an expanded complement of brass for greater contrast. The original score was dedicated to the Countess Caroline Esterhazy, a young piano student of the composer.
