The title is a reference to a spoof piece ’composed’ by John Stump; it is my’s hope that this version is a little more harmonious, or at the very least more playable! Three key themes are heard, each somewhat chromatic and none sounding particularly comfortable: two waltz themes are introduced by a solo glockenspiel and by the bass section of the band; the air appears as a plaintive alto saxophone solo. The second waltz theme returns in a fugue that may be familiar to those with an ear for the musically absurd and is combined with the other themes, before the faeries retreat from us, disappearing back the way they came.

This piece was premièred in June 2010 by the University of Cambridge Concert Band, conducted by the composer. It is to be played by the Lincolnshire Youth Symphonic Wind Band in autumn 2010.
