It is about the Turkish invasion of Hungary during the sixteenth century, and uses plenty of Arabic and Gypsy idioms. It is melodically based, but has interesting harmonic changes. It is hopefully both an enjoyable challenge to the moderately skilled and simply a joy for the professional.
This string quartet was later expanded into "Stars Over Eger" for Symphonic Orchestra
