"Chief Joseph" is another short, programatic, orchestral work scored for brass ensemble and strings with some percussion. These are my musical impressions of the Nez Perce leader who led his tribe in a bid for freedom, that eventually failed. It is in three continuous parts:
1. The Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce begin their four month flight to freedom.
2. Their suffering from hunger and the cold.
3. Their capture by U.S. troops only forty miles from the Canadian border - and freedom.
