People have often asked me why, as a cellist, I have never written anything specifically for my own instrument (well, my mum asked me once). This cello suite will, I hope, be the first of several. I wrote it for Sean Turpin as a means for him to show off his virtuosity as a cello player. It is very difficult, involving much use of double-stopping and a lot of fiddling about in the higher register. In fact, if any cellist out there does manage to complete it, apply to me immediately for a free bag of sweeties! (Sorry, all gone!)
