This is the full score (original) version of a new setting of the Gloria written for the congregation and musicians of the Priory of the Holy Spirit (Blackfriars), Oxford, and first sung there on September 25th 2011. Proceeds from the sale of this setting will go to the priory’s building renewal fund.
This score, for string quartet or equivalent, and optional wind instruments, presented no problems for the instrumentalists, who mastered it in a 10 minute rehearsal, whilst the congregation picked up much of the vocal part in a brief practice before Mass.
Until copyright permission has been confirmed the music is provided without text, as it is possible for the congregation to sing the words direct from their new missals. The setting is largely syllabic, with any small melismas indicated by slurs in the vocal part.
