Bow Ye Low is a medley of three Shaker spirituals; BOW YE LOW SAITH THE LORD JEHOVAH, NEVER SOAR ON MOUNTAINS HIGH, and THE WILLOW & THE OAK. All three spirituals speak of the Shaker desire to obtain true humility. The march-like quality of this arrangement reflects the dance style of the Shakers. This piece will have you tapping your toes. Appropriate for a concert setting or a worship service. Written for SAB A’Capella Choir. Piano reduction is included in the score. Bow ye low saith the Lord Jehovah,
O ye specks of mortal clay
For I have come to plant my vineyard,
With the holy righteous seed.
I will bend the tall like cedars
And lay low the sturdy oak.
I will plant the limber willow,
Firm and solid as the rock.
Never soar on mountains high but seek an humble station.
True protection you will find in low humiliation.

True peace and comforts flowing.
