"Blaenwern" was written in about 1904 by the prominent Welsh Methodist musician William Rowlands. The tune takes its name from a farm in Pembrokeshire, Wales, where the composer's son recuperated from pneumonia as a boy. The 17th century words were translated by Edward Caswall, a Church of England priest who converted to Catholicism in 1847.
