Its message is for all time, for all peoples and for all believers. The first verse is a four-part chorale with optional accompaniment follwed by a piano interlude that sets the style of support for the second verse in which the choir sings in unison over the improvisatory piano arrangement. A change of meter and melody is heard in the third verse. In the fourth verse, the choir, trumpet and piano expand the emotion to an intensity that expresses a fervent and heartfelt cry for peace.
