This melody is attributed to Loys “Louis” Bourgeois (c.1510-c.1560) and first appeared in the 1551 version of the Genevan Psalter. Although it was there associated with Psalm 134, the tune got its current name ten years later through association with a paraphrase of Psalm 100, written in 1561 by Rev. William Kethe (d.1564).
