A paraphrase of the East Prussian folk song "Anke van Tharaw", also known as "Ännchen von Tharau", changed to fit my own taste. The text is attributed to Simon Dach (1605-1659), and the melody was created 1827 by Friedrich Silcher (1789-1860). There exist versions by Heinrich Albert (1604-1651), Johann Friedrich Reichardt (1752-1814) and Karl Siegmund Freiherr von Seckendorff (1744-1785), this latter one, in a very Baroque playful mood. I chose the tune by Friedrich Silcher for my "improvement", because it reveals very much the Slavic character.
