The Two Pieces for Cello and Piano comprise 'A Strange Thought' and 'A Whimsical Sketch'.

'A Strange Thought' is is precursor to the later, more refined 'Dream Temple' for violin and piano (1920). Much of the music found its way into the later piece, which was premiered by John Dunn at the Wigmore Hall in London. It's full of mysterious harmonies and chordal juxtapositions, set amidst a lyrical cello line.

'A Whimsical Sketch' is in a much lighter vein whilst similarly exploring some unusual harmonies.
