Prelude to a Doll's Ballet is a short piece for string orchestra that William Baines wrote in 1920. I don't believe it was ever performed in his lifetime - certainly his manuscripts left no copies of extracted parts. It's a slight piece and does reveal his limitations as an orchestrator (he wrote very little for orchestra in his short life, although the Symphony in C Minor and Poem for piano and orchestra are long overdue public outings - the latter awaits its first performance).
