A whole tone is an interval that spans 3 frets on the guitar. This particular pattern is moveable and can be played just about anywhere on the guitar. I recommend starting in 5th position until your fingers are strong enough to hold each stretch. First position is the most difficult because the frets are the largest in that position. There are 3 notes on each string. Make sure you use your index, middle, and pinky fingers. An extension is when one finger stretches and skips a fret. Here your middle finger skips the 2nd fret and plays the 3rd fret. The pinky finger skips the 4th fret and plays the 5th fret.
