WHEELER DEALERS - a musical comedy written by Jerry Way
John Wheeler is a car salesman at Wheeler Motors in Pine Fork, Wisconsin. Unfortunately, because he is “honest to a fault,” he sells very few cars. His father, Big Jack Wheeler, owns the dealership. Big Jack hopes to retire soon and wants John to step up his sales pitch to become a “wheeler dealer.” Cliff Barlow is a slick, successful car salesman who connives to take over the dealership and steal John’s longtime girlfriend Valerie in the process. Sheriff Baxter shops for a faster squad car to capture a “most-wanted” fugitive he believes is living in town under an assumed identity. Wheeler Motors sponsors a contest in the Weekly Bugle newspaper offering a brand new 1958 Corvette as grand prize. The women talk about relationships at Becky’s Beauty Shop, the men discuss the world champion Milwaukee Braves at Sigmund’s Barbershop, and the whole town gathers for coffee at Flo’s Café. Problems arise when the annual May Day Ball and the opening of fishing season fall on the same day. The show features 10 original songs and a cast of 10 men and 10 women.
