My What Ho! Prelude was written for St Paul's Girls' School Orchestra to start a concert that finishes with Haydn's Farewell Symphony. In the latter all the players walk out in a set order leaving behind just two violins at the end.
My piece reverses the order starting with two violins. The orchestra is larger than Haydn's, so all those not in the Farewell Symphony walk in at the end of the piece and play for a few bars before the piece finishes.
The Concert scheduled for July 2002 will be my last at the school before I retire, hence the choice of the Farewell Symphony.
