This is a useful and somewhat unusual version of the well known hymn. Although it would work very well for a worship service, it was written as a combined ensemble finale for a school Christmas concert that included choir, band, and orchestra.
As a teaching opportunity, the title (and most of the text)is in Latin. A short passage of the text is in English. This also helps the music retain a medieval quality. It could be sung all in English if desired.
The parts are easily rehearsed in individual ensembles and fit together quickly in one short rehearsal. In spite of this construction, the piece avoids block scoring and unecessary part doubling with some "goodies" for most sections. I believe reviewers will find it very satisfying musically.
