I composed this set of variations as a leaving gift for Gareth Edwards on his retirement as Principal of George Watson’s College in Edinburgh. Gareth is a proud Welshman and we often talked of Welsh rugby, happily working together during some Grand Slam glory years! The Music Department of the senior school at GWC gamely agreed to help me perform this piece at a concert in Gareth’s honour in May 2014.
The score is available from me griffmusic@gmail.com and will be posted online for download soon, once I’ve edited in all the improvised bits from the performance. Most of the "action" you see is in the score but some is not!
