I composed these variations for solo piano on the Theme for Soprano « Einsam ging ich jüngst im Haine » K.308 (295b) by W.-A. MOZART. At the very beginning, the purpose was to show various dominant features of Mozart's style to my students (grade approx. 7-8). Other works by Mozart deeply inspired my work (variations for piano on « Ah vous dirais-je maman » and so on…). The constant rythmic changes in the varied theme associated with a rather new harmonic feel are some features of this 8 minutes piece of music.
I give the original theme for Soprano as an extracted part.
