This is meant to be a light addition to a more serious concert programme - maybe to get the audience back in their seats after the interval. It could possibly be used alongside an audience member playing the very simple percussion part with a triangle or ride cymbal. Only the solo clarinettist needs to improvise - there is very little thematic material - only the simple motifs in the first few bars are important; the rest of the time you just make it up! It can be played without the second clarinet and the percussion i.e. just as a duet for clarinet and bass clarinet.
