My piece Tupelo Poems is not for the faint of heart. The frequent shifts in texture, mood, and dynamic require a high level of musicianship and versatile voices. That being said, the payoff is worth it. Only 4 vocal parts (occasional splits in the SSAA version) weave in and out to create worlds evoking warm southern evenings by open windows, childhood nostalgias of beach trips and fleeting connections, and road trips with young lovers.
Program Notes
A love letter to the Louisiana landscape;
a story of two lovers, nostalgia for the childhoods we can not have back, and the never-ending often cyclical journeys we all take in life.
