You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. As a tuba player, I have avoided writing for my own instrument for a long time. I finally succumbed with this piece for solo tuba with piano accompaniment. I'm really pleased with it. It opens with a semi recitative section on the Tuba on which most of the rest of the piece is based. I love writing contrapuntal music, and am strongly influenced here by J. S. Bach, but I also love Vaughan Williams and have played his Tuba Concerto many times. The piano then takes the lead in a fugato section in which the tuba adds to the counterpoint, covering most of its range. The faster section which follows is a joyful (but still largely contrapuntal) exclamation by the tuba, leaping wildly about in pure unadulterated fun. The fugato ideas return before the tuba launches into another motif, slightly wistful, but at the same time aggressive but this morphs into the fugato material again, which is taken over by the piano before the final chord dies away over a reminder of the fugato. This is an exciting new addition to the tuba repertoire which would make a great addition to a recital or concert programme. Parts are available for Tuba (BC) Eb Bass (TC) Piano and a piano part with the tuba cued above.
