Like the equally famous ’Purcell’ Trumpet Voluntary, this Trumpet Tune was long thought to be by Purcell when in fact it comes from a stage work called The Island Princess which was a joint musical venture by Jeremiah Clarke and Purcell’s younger brother Daniel.
Very popular at weddings, it can be used at the beginning or the end, as processional or recessional music, and no matter how many times you hear it, it will always make you smile.
This arrangement for string quartet includes a few suggestions for bowings and dynamics which work for us, but feel free to add your own markings and play it your own way!
