The Trumpet Concerto (2011) was originally written in three movements, the second, slow movement, of which is still extant, and the third (as with many of the composer’s works) can be performed as a separate entity. The first movement, at any rate, also exists in two slightly different scorings, the first for strings, percussion - including timpani - and harp.

Practically every note and passage has symbolic value and significance in an autobiographical and almost ritual sense: the key to the movement is the number 11, thought by many to be expressive of the Will, found in both the metre and leap of 11th characteristic of the basic material. Similarly, key and form - based on a golden section pattern superimposed on a concertante format is used to reinforce the idea. B flat minor transforms at the structural crux to E major, a tritone apart) and the tempo changes proportionally as well (to 110 bpm!).

It is quite likely that certain passages for the soloist at the apotheosis are impossible.
