'Tre Ecloghe per Flauto, Arpa e Viola' (Three eclogues for flute, harp and viola). Each movement uses a fragment of a folk song as its melodic source. 'Ecloga della Pastora' quotes a melodic motif from a Tuscan folksong.'Ecloga aeoliana' re-composes a strain of a Peruvian folk song of the Andes region stated in the viola - measures 1-9. 'Ecloga della Montagna is based on some melodic bits and pieces from some folk tunes from the Pyrenees in Northern Spain.
I wrote the entire piece while living in Rome, Italy holding the American Academy in Rome Music Composition Fellowship. It was first performed in New York, P.S.1 Sounds from the Left Bank 1988. In 2000 it was awarded in the Kathryn Thomas International Flute Composition Competition (UK).
