A piece for chamber orchestra, (wind and strings), based on a rising string motif, and an adaptable flute and wind melody. This piece is inspired by Charles Ives composition, "The Unanswered Question". The first string melody, which rarely alters, represents the status quo, whilst the flute melody represents an essence of change. The interim horn and timpani sequence is the change having taken place. Each recurrence entails slight adaptaions to the status quo, whilst essence of change undergoes a new pattern each time.
