The Tommy of the title was a much loved School Caretaker who was (and still is) a wonderful sight to watch doing Irish set dancing with his equally adept wife. The first seven notes "say" '––- you little rascal' and the 'little rascal' motif can be found throughout the piece. Since the words would not easily adapt to Irish dance music , I set them to a Tango, for fun. The Violin III part should ONLY be used when there are not sufficient violas to provide good balance. Tommy, conscientious to a fault, was trusted by the children, admired by the parents and respected by all his staff colleagues.
