This work has been composed for my highest grade students in harmony / counterpoint. The purpose was to build a piece of music for keyboard in the style of J.-S. Bach's 3 Parts Inventions (BWV 788 to 801). The idea is to give the first bar only (including the whole material of the piece, this is to say the 2 Themes composed in invertible counterpoint). The challenge is to compose as close as possible to Bach's keyboard music. With the following instructions: - First Part ends at bar 10 in D minor (authentic cadence); - Second Part ends at bar 20, back to the Tonic where the invertible themes are exposed twice (by inversion of the order of the voices); - Last cadence at bar 26. I give the first bar (exercise) as an extracted part.
