This work was inspired by a very beloved and beautiful white and ginger cat of mine called Sullivan ( guess what his brother was called?). In particular, the rapid, twirling triplet figure in the central section was a direct evocation of his habit of twisting around on the floor for the sheer joy of it! But otherwise I suppose there might be a certain feline sensibility in the character of the work as a whole?
