J.S.Bach's four part harmonisations still stand among the finest examples of this art. Here are just 3 of the many Chorales which Bach harmonised. The three chorales are: "Christus, der ist mein leben" (Christ is my life); "Es ist gewisslich an der zeit" (It is certainly time); "Dank sie Gott in der Hohe" (Thanks be to to God on high). The music is arranged here for 2 cornets; tenor horn; euphonium and E flat bass.
The most famous collection of Bach's 371 Chorales is probably that of Albert Riemenschneider. The Chorales in this selection are numbered in Riemenschneider as 6, 362 and 311 respectively.
